Job Title: Behavior Technician

 

Department: Behavior Health Services/Alternative Education

 

Education Level and Certification: High school diploma. Prior experience with Behavioral and Mental Health needs is preferred but not required.  Other requirements:  valid driver’s license, good physical exam, and ability to maintain the confidentiality of student information.  

 

Reports To: Principal and Program Director

 

Terms of Employment:  185-190 days August to May position

 

Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks

The ESU 13 Day Treatment/School Behavior Technician is responsible for assisting certificated staff with implementaton of instructional programs, emotional and behavioral interventions as well as providing individualized instruction to youth enrolled in Panhandle Beginnings.  The behavior technician may be asked to transport students to and from school and any other activities as assigned.

  1. Provides a positive image of ESU 13.
  2. Provides safe supervision of students during all phases of the school day in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.
  3. Assists the classroom teacher as assigned in the delivery of instructional activities to individual students or groups of students, and in the implementation of behavior management plans as assigned by teachers.
  4. Supervises activities, providing students with a pleasant, congenial opportunity for social experience and development. Assists with cleanup as necessary.
  5. Prepares instructional materials and bulletin boards and helps with all clerical tasks except those which involve student assessment of instructional planning.
  6. Performs such light housekeeping duties as are necessary to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  7. Transports students safely to and from school and to any other sites accessed for student learning opportunities and administers systematic behavior management to insure safe transport.
  8. Inspects transportation vehicle daily (lights, mirrors, belts, fluid levels, tires, etc.) and maintains the vehicle in clean condition.
  9. Assists teachers in problem solving by offering ideas and suggestions for program improvement.
  10. Exercises initiative in giving assistance to teachers and students wherever and whenever it is needed regardless of customary duties and assignments.
  11. Submits incident reports according to procedure.
  12. Participates in in-service training and staff development as requested.
  13. Performs other assigned duties as requested by the Administrator, Program Director, or classroom teachers.

Working Conditions

  1. Inside heated and air conditioned classroom.
  2. Outside for activities with students and student supervision.
  3. Exposure to incidents of aggression when working with students with behavioral impairments.

At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the ESU 13 Administrator or ESU 13 Administrator’s designee.
